ABI & Concussion

Modified 8 - Week MBSR

Hypnosis and Meditation for Communication

Hypnosis provides an evidence-informed method for strengthening attention and self-regulation. Through guided imagery, focused concentration, and suggestion, hypnosis can help reduce internal distractions, reinforce new communication strategies, and build confidence in applying them in real-life settings. Combined with meditation-based practices, hypnosis offers clients additional tools for practicing calm focus, which in turn strengthens the executive functions that underlie communication competence.

By weaving these strategies into therapy, clients gain greater consistency and control in how they receive and express information, supporting work re-entry, more effective relationships, and a deeper trust in the self in daily life.

Integrating MBSR, Hypnosis, and

Meditation in ABI Rehabilitation- Virtual

Following a concussion or mild acquired brain injury, individuals often experience challenges in executive function, skills such as attention, planning, organization, and self-monitoring. These skills are essential for communication, whether in conversation, at work, or in relationships. Within Speech-Language Pathology, approaches such as mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), clinical hypnosis, and guided meditation can be integrated into therapy to support self-regulation and cognitive control.

MBSR, traditionally offered in an 8-week format, uses structured practices such as body awareness, mindful movement, and attention training to help individuals notice patterns of distraction or stress reactivity. In the context of communication therapy, these strategies encourage presence and flexibility — supporting clients in pausing, listening, and responding more effectively.
